Kazi Nazrul Islam was born in the village of Churulia in the Burdwan district of India on Tuesday, 24th March, 1899. Nazrul's father's name is Fakir Ahmed and mother's name is Zaheda Khatun. Nazrul was born after four sons in a row. So after a lot of trouble, his mother named him Dukhu Mia. Nazrul was 8 years old in 1908 when his mother died. Nazrul was a very good student and used to study in Maktab. In 1909, he passed the preliminary examination. This time he will be admitted in high school but there is no opportunity to study in high school due to lack of family. But he could not get admission in high school and started teaching in Maktab. Besides reading Maktab, Nazrul used to give Azan in the mosque. He used to run his family with the income he got from it. Then he thought that he needed to earn more money. Nazrul Kabi joined the singing group. He used to go to different places with the group to sing. He used to compose songs orally while standing in the hall. Basudev was the owner of the team. He loved Nazrul very much. Leto returned from the team and was admitted to high school. But he did not like going to school at all. He used to write poems without going to school. Kazi Bazle Karim was Nazrul's uncle. He used to teach Nazrul French. He used to teach Nazrul that he did not like the strict rules in school. So he ran away from school one day. Nazrul accepted Asansol's routine while sitting in the shop. Nazrul was eating flour and singing humming songs. Kazi Rafiqul was Asansol's inspector. He was fascinated to talk to Nazrul. He realized that the boy has many qualities. Daroga Saheb brought Nazrul to his village Mymensingh. He was admitted to Dariapur High School. Nazrul used to study for many nights by lighting a cup. In the evening large brass kerosene had to be filled with oil. There was little oil in the morning. Nazrul used to study from Bichutia Morlo house in Mymensingh. He used to eat rice with Nazrul. One day he accidentally left Nazrul and ate rice. Nazrul set fire to the cell and realized that he had made a mistake. Seeing Nazrul's simplicity, tears came to his eyes. At the festival, he recited Rabindranath's poem 'Old Ghost', two bighas of land. Everyone praised him for listening to his recitation. Nazrul's friend Shailjanand. He attended Asansol Government High School. He was a ninth grader at Searsol High School in 1918. At that time wars were going on all over the world. The name of this war was 'Great War'. Nazrul was prepared to go to war with his friend. But his friend could not go to war. Nazrul went to war. He used to write poems after the war. Self-written poems are read by others. Nazrul returned to Calcutta from the war in 1920. He continued to compose poetry. In 1921, he surprised Bengali poetry. One of his poems was published in Praktika. The name of the poem is 'Rebel'. At that time Rabindranath was a very great poet. Nazrul had great respect for Rabindranath. He loved Rabindranath and Nazrul very much. Nazrul was very happy after the rebellious poem was published. He ran to Rabindranath. People all over the country were surprised to read the poem. Poet Jasim Uddin. Known as a village poet, he often visited Nazrul. He used to discuss poems and songs. In September 1922, Nazrul's poem 'Anandamoyir Agaman' was published. Shortly after the poem was published, the English sent him to jail. While in jail, Nazrul composed his song 'Shikal Para Chhal'. At this time his book of poems 'Agniveena' was published. The poet was released from prison in 1924. He married Premila Sengupta. Shortly after the marriage, he started writing songs. Sanjita is the name of the best song book of the poet. The poet joined the theater cinema in 1931. Later he worked for Grameenphone. I had to write songs from here. He used to give the melody of his own song. On 15 December 1929, the poet was given a reception by the nation at the Calcutta Albert Hall on the initiative of the newspaper. Azad Prafulla Chanda Roy presided over the function. The main president was Subhash Chandra Bose. At that time some sad incidents took place in the life of the poet. His first son Azad Kalam died in 1930. His second son Bulbul died of smallpox in the same year. Poet Nazrul used to write for all people. To him Hindu-Muslim-Buddhist-Christian are equal. He used to write poems, songs and rhymes for children. In July 1942, the poet contracted a disease called 'Pix'. Due to this disease he lost the power of speech and mental balance. The poet was sent abroad. Many treatments continued but did not improve. In 1970, the Government of India conferred the title of 'Padma Bhush' on him. The Bangladesh government brought the sick poet to Dhaka in 1972. He was honored as a national poet. In 1981, the poet was awarded the Ekushey Padak. He has written many stories and poems in his life. He has written 22 books of poetry, 2 books of teenage poetry, 3 novels and has composed thousands of songs. At that time the poet was 6 years old. Nazrul wrote in one of his poems, "Bury me on that side of the mosque, brother." That is why he was buried next to the Dhaka University Mosque. Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam has become immortal in Bangladeshi literature. His poetry will be remembered forever.
